Please mark your calendars for the Tucson Women’s March 2019, to be held on Sunday, January 20th, 2019 from 10 AM – 2 PM at Jácome Plaza (corner of Stone & Pennington in front of Joel D. Valdez library).
Throughout history, women have been assembling and changing society, from the French Resistance to the American Revolution to the Suffragettes, who secured the right to vote through their resistance efforts. We are proud to continue this honorable tradition with the Tucson Women’s March.
In January 2017, the world saw its first official “women’s marches.” All over the world, an estimated 3 million women, men, and children participated in marches in the U.S. – the biggest march in the history of the United States – and over 300,000 people in other countries had their own marches.
Tucson’s 2017 Women’s March was attended by over 15,000 people. People gathered together in the cold and rain to listen to speeches and music, then march and chant together. It was an incredible experience. I know because I was there.
A group of volunteer women has been working since early 2018 on the 2019 Tucson Women’s March: from infrastructure (insurance, permits, route, etc.), to publicity, to speakers and entertainment (more on the lineup next month); to recruiting hundreds of volunteers and working to raise funds to cover expenses.
We welcome everyone who comes in peace at this non-partisan event. There will be speeches by community leaders, local and national musicians, poetry, and dance, tabling by organizations, and food trucks. The route is accessible and kid-friendly.
We are working to ensure that this celebrates the diversity of Tucson’s cultures, ethnicities, genders, and religions is represented. All speeches will be in both English and Spanish, and the march will be led by a coalition of indigenous people. March apparel (t-shirts, hoodies, and hats) is available in both languages on our website at www.tucsonwomensmarch.com.
Please donate or sponsor us; buy a t-shirt, hoodie, or hat; volunteer, and march with us. Together we rise! Learn more at www.tucsonwomensmarch.com.
