The Vail Community is a wonderful place to live. We love the beauty of the desert surroundings, the slower pace of life, and the friendly atmosphere, etc.

However, there are people right here in our community who are in need of a lifeline. The Greater Vail Community ReSources Food Bank (Food Bank) provides a partial lifeline for those in need. Located between the tracks on Colossal Cave Road, and run mostly by volunteers who live in the community, the Food Bank provides emergency food to families, meals for the home-bound, and supplemental weekend nutrition ‘backpacks’ for Vail students.

Financially, this is made possible through generous food, goods, and monetary donations as well as proceeds from the Vail Depot Thrift Store. Much work is involved in receiving, organizing, and distributing to those in need. We need many volunteers for this to happen.

Once such volunteer is Anne Young. She moved to Vail 4-years ago from Seattle with her husband (her children are grown). She didn’t know anyone in the Vail community and wanted to meet people, so 2-years ago she decided to volunteer at the Food Bank. It was outside her comfort zone, but she quickly made friends with other volunteers and enjoyed the work so much that she now works two half-day shifts. One of her jobs is to hand out food to those who come to the Food Bank. She has experienced the “thankfulness and gratitude” from those she serves and feels satisfaction in helping others. She also enjoys the “good exercise” from stocking the food shelves and preparing food baskets.

We’re always looking for new volunteers to support our mission. We’ve been fortunate to have many people step forward and volunteer with us and we need help now. If you have the time or inclination to give back to the community, please contact the Food Bank at 520-879-1242, or go to https://resourcesvail.org/volunteer/. Want a greater feeling of satisfaction? Want to make new friends in the community? Want to help others and have a chance to ‘pay it forward? Join us today, we have immediate openings
