To the editor:
My husband and I fell in love with Vail in 2005 and purchased a lot. In June of 2015, we finally moved to Vail to enjoy our retirement and have grown to love the community even more. Vail is a very special community and what makes the community so exceptional are its schools and their relationship with the community. The Vail School District’s culture is the glue of the community and its mission of delivering a quality education attracts people who want to live here because of the education their children will be receiving. Since living here we have been very impressed with how well the district delivers that education.
Builders advertise their homes as being in the Vail School District to attract buyers because of the district’s superior reputation. New housing in Vail has exploded and very soon the existing schools will be overcrowded. There is an immediate need for a new high school and elementary school, and without funding these schools will not be able to be built.
No one wants to pay higher taxes and neither my husband nor I are advocates of tax and spend or deficit spending and our kids are grown and gone; however, we will be voting in November in favor of the district’s bond, Proposition 468. A good education is so important for everyone’s future and good schools benefit us all.
We urge everyone to vote yes on Proposition 468 in November.
Pam and Rick Kelty, Vail.
