There are lots of things happening in the Rita Ranch Community Garden in anticipation of our October 27th Open House and Activities Day. For those of you who have been following our community garden project, we usually have a Fall Garden Tour this time of year, but this fall we are instead concentrating on an Open House and Activities Day for the Rita Ranch Community Garden, also known as The Ace Acre. Our Garden Tours will still happen but now just once a year in the spring time.
On October 27 from 8 – 2 PM, we will have lots of fun and interesting activities happening at the Ace Acre. There will be fun workshops, food, raffle prize giveaways, a pumpkin carving contest, plant and irrigation demonstrations, and a plant sale and craft show. Hands on workshops will include how to compost, organic gardening, raising earthworms, planting succulents, solar cooking, building raised beds, rock painting, and more. Proud gardeners will be there showing off their garden beds. See if you can tell which garden bed belongs to the students of Vail Blended Learning.
If you haven’t had a chance to see the garden yet, it’s located at 7471 S. Houghton, just across the parking lot from Ace Hardware and behind Rita Ranch Automotive and Ben’s Bikes. Many people of all ages and abilities are working hard to make the Ace Acre a beautiful place for our community so please come out and join the fun with the whole family to support a great cause!
