Hello Friends,
I hope this message finds you well and that your new year is off to a great start! February is here, and with it comes an important milestone for Tucson’s future. Around Valentine’s Day, ballots for the March special election will arrive in City of Tucson residents’ mailboxes. I’d like to share why this election—and Proposition 414—matters to you and your family.
Breaking Down Prop 414
Proposition 414 proposes a half-cent sales tax increase for the next 10 years to invest in Tucson’s safety and community resilience. Approximately two-thirds (65.75%) of the revenue from Prop 414 will go toward critical investments in public safety, including:
• Hiring 60 additional commissioned police officers and 125 professional staff to strengthen the Tucson Police Department.
• Adding 88 firefighters to our fire stations to enhance emergency response times.
• Expanding our emergency call services with 20 additional 9-1-1 and 3-1-1 operators.
• Upgrading key safety systems, such as our 9-1-1 technology and real-time crime detection tools.
The remaining funds (34.25%) will support neighborhood and community resiliency efforts, such as addressing homelessness, funding citywide clean-ups, and improving the overall quality of life for Tucson residents.
Building Safer Neighborhoods
Street racing, long 9-1-1 wait times, and increased emergency response needs have been persistent challenges in our growing city, and these issues are often felt even more acutely in Ward 4. Prop 414 directly addresses these concerns by providing funding for tools like enhanced air support and additional resources for the Community Safety Awareness and Response Center (CSARC). CSARC uses advanced technology to keep Tucson safe and will be even more effective with the proposed funding from Prop 414.
Your Voice Matters
As a Tucson resident, your vote has a direct impact on the future of our community. Prop 414 represents a critical opportunity to create meaningful change, ensuring that our public safety and neighborhood resilience programs keep up with our city’s needs.
