Road Construction Update
Houghton Road/Over Union Pacific Railroad
Crews have removed the last of the old bridge structure and have begun constructing the retaining walls along the west side of Houghton. Coordination with Union Pacific Railroad is underway to construct the columns and bridge approach decks. Traffic will stay in its current configuration for some time while the new southbound bridge is built. Stay aware and follow all traffic control devices.
Arizona Department of Transportation Updates
Traffic signals at Rita, Kolb & Wilmot at I-10: Bid opening for the installation of the traffic signals at Rita, Kolb & Wilmot occurred on 04/13/2018. Estimates for this project were $1,854,258.48. Bids were submitted by Sturgeon Electric ($1,753,204.96), Roadway Electric ($1,827,623.36) and Contractors West ($1,974,384.33).
Sturgeon Electric was the low bidder and came in under the estimate. The contract award is expected at the next meeting of the Arizona Transportation Board in May of 2018. Start dates usually happen 30-45 days after the award or notice to proceed. We may see activity beginning in June of 2018.
Wilmot & I-10:
Crews have completed construction of the temporary bridge and it will be lifted into place the weekend of April 21, 2018. The detour will be paved in and traffic will be changed over to the detour. This is expected to happen in early May. Several closures under Wilmot are expected with the first happening on April 21, 2018. Speeds are reduced in the area and the Department of Public Safety is enforcing the speed limit. Please slow down.
Other local projects:
Valencia Road/Wilmot to Kolb: The bid date for this project has been extended to 4/27/2018. Due to numerous changes in plans and specifications the city of Tucson has extended the bid deadline. More information will become available as we receive it. Stay tuned.
Summer paving projects:
The city of Tucson has begun paving for its summer projects. Some of these are close to home and may affect your day to commute. Electronic Variable Message Signs will be used to alert traffic for upcoming delays.
