We get around 4 – 5 calls each week from people wanting to know about our town. How is COVID affecting our businesses? Are our restaurants open? Are face masks required to be worn around town? And, are our hotels open? It is usually their last comment though, that gets our attention – They are headed to Vail to “cool off”. Indeed, our community is a great place to visit. We have an abundance of open space, some wonderful hiking and biking opportunities. We have one of the best places to golf in southern Arizona and between the Coronado de Tucson area, Vail and the Houghton corridor, there are some absolutely great restaurants. We are close to a National Park, and, if you are looking to “cool off” we have Colossal Cave where the temperatures inside average 70 degrees year-round. We have everything an outdoor enthusiast would want when looking for a place to vacation. But – to “cool off”, (other than Colossal Cave) – we may not fit that bill. We then find out they believe they have contacted the Vail, Colorado Chamber of Commerce. We do all we can to encourage them to visit our grand community. Though I must admit, our success rate hasn’t been too high.
And just – “Why Not”? We are proud of our community. You don’t have to go very far before you realize the value and benefits of living in Vail (Arizona that is). It is our sense of community that makes the difference. We have an absolutely great school district and organizations which support our students. We have people who truly care about each other – such as Greater Vail Community ReSources. We have people who want to convey their passion for our history – such as the Vail Preservation Society. We have an engaging faith community. We have businesses, companies and organizations who want to provide for our visitors and residents.
We have it all. Our new motto may be: Look out Vail, Colorado – Vail, Arizona is moving up fast on the “must visit” list.
