As we live and work in Southeast Tucson, we are constantly faced with the road construction challenges on the Houghton/I-10 corridor. There are actually two projects; widening Houghton Road from Valencia to Mary Anne Cleveland and building a new bridge across I-10. Sometimes we feel like we are singled out for this road construction but driving around Tucson it seems like every area is affected!
On Broadway, the road is being widened between Euclid and Country Club. Only one lane is open, and the project is scheduled for completion in late September.
Kolb road is also experiencing delays as roads are being widened from Sabino Canyon to Sunrise. That project will not be completed until early 2022.
Another major project affecting Sunrise at Skyline Drive started in late July. Skyline Drive, including turn lanes, will be closed at the intersection and will not be accessible from either eastbound or westbound Sunrise. That project is scheduled for completion in late May 2022.
Oracle Road has also been reduced to one lane between Calle Concordia and McGee although that project should be completed later this month. Another project on Oracle Road, construction from the I-10 frontage road to Calle Concordia, just started and will not be completed until March of 2023!
And let’s not forget the Ruthrauff/I-10 construction, which will be completed late this year.
Road construction is needed, and we welcome it. Many Tucson area roads need repairs and replacing them accomplishes that. So be patient, allow a little more time for travel and look forward to a smooth running future!
