We have lots of content in this month’s issue regarding the work being done in our community and close locations; from the “Valencia: Willmot to Kolb Project,” Amazon coming the Tucson area, as well as our regular reporting in the Highways and Byways and Construction Zone sections. In addition, each month we have stories of the work of the many community groups often staffed by volunteers who work tirelessly to improve the quality of life in the greater Vail and surrounding areas.

It is fitting then, with the coming of September, that we celebrate Labor Day (on the 3rd). Labor Day is a day when we celebrate the accomplishments of American workers. The simple fact is that it takes a great diversity of jobs to make modern life, and a community, function. We live in a technological age in which machines and technology can do much to make life easier; however, no machine can soothe a child’s fear, feed the hungry, guide the wayward, counsel the troubled, console the hurting, or serve us eggs and coffee just the way we like it. No computer yet can lead troops, guide a club, tutor another, put out a fire, or respond to a midnight call of a prowler in someone’s back yard.

This week, as we celebrate Labor Day, let us recognize the importance of the work of others and those special people, and community groups, who work hard to help our community to function and thrive.

Nothing ever comes to one, that is worth having, except as a result of hard work – Booker T. Washington
