To the editor:
People in Vail know the importance of a good public school education. In fact, many people move here so their children can attend excellent public schools. In recent years, the Arizona State Legislature has not funded education properly, so now many classrooms are over-crowded and teachers are underpaid. I am backing Jaime Alvarez for Arizona State Senate because he is committed to improving public schools. Mr. Alvarez realizes the importance of public schools for our young people and for the entire state’s economy. We cannot advance without a well-educated citizenry. David Gowan, who is Alvarez’s opponent, thinks that schools need to pinch pennies and do more with less. He will not improve our schools, and he has not voted to fund them adequately during his years in the legislature. Jaime Alvarez served in the Marine Corps and is a retired auditor. He has the skills to understand financial statements and budgets. He also realizes that we have to create greater economic development in rural Arizona. Vote for Jaime Alvarez for our schools and for our rural communities.
