To the editor:

We are voting YES on Prop 468. There is significant research that tells us smaller class sizes produce positive social, emotional, and academic results (Glass and Smith’s research and Tennessee’s Project STAR). Right now our high schools and classrooms are overcrowded. Our bus fleets, technology, and facilities are all aging. The Vail School District has done an outstanding job of placing band-aids on the overgrowing class sizes and significant leaks and breaks. Band-aids are no longer the solution and are just not okay for our students and staff.

Voting YES on prop 468 will lift the band-aid and allow our district to continue providing an amazing education; an education filled with learning opportunities and more seats for our growing student community.

Voting YES is investing in the future of the community, a community where one day these students will cut our hair, be our nurse or teacher or even our CPA. These students will one day invest in you and the community that invested in them. I encourage you to read the guiding principles and mission of the Vail School District and vote YES on 468. Education is a community effort!

Brian and Catherine Byars, parents of a 2nd and 4th grader, Vail.
