On August 7, Viva Coffee House will host bestselling author and award-winning filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, starting with a sold-out “Coffee with Dinesh” at Viva, followed by a larger-venue presentation (ticket info below). Local politicians are welcome to attend, with the expectation that they display Servant Leadership through ushering and cleanup.
Many in leadership positions have neglected or usurped our Founders’ vision of a government of, for and by the People. They have allowed the free exchange of ideas to be strangled by Orwellian censorship and Machiavellian authoritarianism in our public schools, universities, media and entertainment. Centuries of foundational Western thought and Judeo-Christian wisdom have been shoved out of the public square in a cultural purge that threatens America’s hard-won Liberty.
We won’t let that happen.
Viva launched a new initiative earlier this year with a mission to help restore our community and our nation: Viva FreedomTalk revives the historical role of the local coffee shop as a patriotic hub for the free exchange of ideas and civic education. Viva FreedomTalk presents engaging content from history, science, theology and education and hosts speakers to enhance critical thinking skills and restore truth to the great American Republic.

The Declaration of Independence was first read to the public at Merchant’s Coffee House, and the Sons of Liberty met regularly at the Green Dragon Tavern & coffee house. Dinesh D’Souza explained the phenomenon whereby private citizens defied censorship and tyranny by meeting in places like Viva Coffee House in his June 15, 2021 podcast:
The ‘Republic of Letters’ are people who are not in the government, but they are interested in what the government does…they would meet in cafes, and they would discuss the issues of the day; they were engaging in a kind of civic discourse with political implications—you could almost say ‘advising power.’ You’ve got this intellectual life going on in the community; it’s removed from government, but it exercises a moral force on the government—in fact, its moral force is all the greater because it is thought to be deliberative…you’ve got people from different walks of life, bringing their knowledge and expertise into interaction with each other, and the idea is to improve the moral, but also the political tone of society.
Viva FreedomTalk is part of an American Renaissance whereby our Republic is being rebuilt in coffee shops and cafes on the firm foundation of knowledge and virtue upon which it was established. There is much work to be done, and we need your support to accomplish our mission.

Dinesh D’Souza is a bestselling author and award-winning filmmaker. His political documentaries 2016: Obama’s America and America: Imagine a World Without Her are among the highest-grossing political films of all time. An immigrant who grew up in Mumbai, India, Dinesh came to the United States in 1978 as an exchange student. He attended Dartmouth College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He was a domestic policy analyst at the Reagan White House, and also a scholar at think tanks such as the American Enterprise Institute and the Hoover Institution at Stanford. Dinesh has written nearly 20 books and made five movies. His latest book “United States of Socialism” was a New York Times bestseller. The film based on that book, Trump Card, released on video on demand in the fall of 2020. He teamed up with his wife Debbie to produce a daily podcast, which debuted January of 2021 and is part of the Salem Podcast Network.
