Corona Cares celebrates its 10th year of impactful and sustaining service to our community of Corona de Tucson. This home-grown neighbors-helping-neighbors program is a local nonprofit with an all-volunteer staff and board. It is a proud member of the Neighbors Care Alliance through the Pima Council on Aging. The steadfast mission of the program is to provide services to our elderly and allow them to remain independent and in their homes. Home always brings familiarity, comfort, safety, and routine. Through the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic, limited services are provided at no charge to our community’s seniors and those in need. Under the guidance of a community-oriented board of directors, the program has been superbly and passionately managed by Ellie Abraham since its inception in 2010.
Keeping safety in mind during these difficult times, we have assistive devices (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, and knee walkers) available for loan. We also provide lock boxes, File of Life refrigerator magnets (a free Ambulance District program that can save valuable time in the event of an emergency) and next of kin contact lists. There are free Captel phones for individuals whose hearing loss inhibits their phone use. For those who qualify GreatCall cell phones with Lively Mobile Plus Medical Alert System, for a monthly fee, are also available.
If you know someone in need of these services, or would like to volunteer, please contact the Corona Cares program at (520) 395-9327.
