Updates From the Del Lago Men’s Golf Club

By Stuart Katz

The Del Lago Men’s Golf Club crowned their champions the weekend of March 28 and 29 at the Del Lago Golf Course. The participants were placed into three flights with John Blumenshine winning the A flight, Ron Agtual winning the B flight, and Bob Sanchez garnering the title in the C flight.

The championships were held over two days with the members following the directives about social distancing. The course provided each of the players with a cart to ride alone, and instead of shaking hands at the conclusion of the round, players bumped elbows or clinked putters.

This year was Blumenshine’s second time wining the Gross Championship in the A flight. He bested Domingo Laborin by one shot. Time Tyler was the Low Net champ in the A flight. Ron Agtual came from 9 shots back to defeat Trey Koger for the B flight title, while Koger was the Low Net champion in the B flight.

Bob Sanchez, another repeat winner, led wire-to-wire in the C flight, while Bob Snodgrass was crowned the Low Net winner in a tie breaker over Chad Jorgensen.

Back on March 7, the final event in the Four Golf Course Challenge was held. Featuring. Members from the Del Lago Men’s Golf Club and the men’s clubs at Starr Pass, San Ignacio, and the Country Club of Green Valley all took part. The finals were played at the neutral site of Sewailo Golf Course with 12 members of each club representing their courses.

Each of the courses hosted one of the first four events starting in December. Del Lago had won 3 of the first four events but needed to pull out a victory at Sewailo to claim the overall championship based on the points available for each of the events. Each of the events used the 9 lowest net scores of the 12 members with DLMGC totaling 688 to win the event by six strokes over Starr Pass.

The members of the finals team from Del Lago included Rick Schnurr, Domingo Laborin. Bill McCall, Stuart Katz, Tim Tyler, Brandon Tibbets, Bob Snodgrass, Mark Murnan, John Blumenshine, Hugo Keyner, Bob Miller and Chas Giufurta.
