Real golfers are intrepid by nature and it could be argued that desert golfers are the most fearless of all, so the windy morning of Saturday, November 9th could not deter eighty-seven of them from participating in the ReSources 2019 Golf Challenge held at Del Lago Golf Course in Vail. The scramble format, mulligan balls and “game holes” took the pressure off and paved the way for birdies and the occasional eagle. After the round was over, the fun was capped off by a hearty awards lunch on the Hacienda del Lago patio, followed by raffle results, silent auction, and ball drop contest. The team of Jill Pillings, Joe Pillings and Bill Geivett went home with the first-place trophy, a repeat performance for this group.
In every respect, the tournament was a great success due to the support of our business community, donors, volunteers and, of course, our golfers. The final tally showed that, in spite of increased expenses this year, the ReSources Golf Challenge generated a surplus roughly equal to that of 2018 – all of which will fund the programs of ReSources Vail Food Bank directly.
Deepest thanks go to the tournament’s top tier “Big 18” sponsors: Focus HR, The Fraternal Order of Police, Hacienda del Lago, Hudbay, Long Realty, The Pilates Station, Rita Ranch Automotive and Tire, Safeway and Vulcan Materials Company. Thanks also to hole sponsors Chiara Dental and Backus Realty and Development. It bears repeating that the engagement of everyday people and businesses in Vail (and beyond) is crucial in positioning ReSources to serve those whose needs are not always met by more distant Tucson-based organizations. Apart from providing emergency food to the needy in our community, the food bank also provides meals to homebound residents, weekend nutrition “back packs” to Vail school children and assistance to “youth on their own” (YOTO).
ReSources extends a huge “thank you” to all of you who supported the ReSources 2019 Golf Challenge and who continue to be “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.” For more information on Greater Vail Community Resources, visit the web site: www.resourcesvail.org
