Northwest Medical Center has opened the first freestanding emergency department in Tucson, giving residents in Vail, Rita Ranch, Corona de Tucson and surrounding areas access to nearby urgent and emergency services. Northwest Emergency Center at Vail is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to serve patients who experience medical emergencies. The Northwest Emergency Center is located 10146 East Old Vail Road in Houghton Town Center at the intersection of Houghton and Old Vail Roads.

Northwest Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Kevin Stockton said, “Northwest Emergency Center at Vail provides faster access to emergency care for people living in the Rita Ranch and Vail areas. We have been serving more than just ‘Northwest’ Tucson for many years and this is another example of our commitment to expand healthcare in the greater metropolitan area. ”

Like any hospital emergency department, the new Northwest Emergency Center is equipped to treat patients with illnesses and injuries that require a higher level of care than urgent care facilities offer. The freestanding emergency department has 12 private patient rooms with radiology and lab services on-site. Many emergency services can be effectively managed at freestanding emergency departments without the need for transfer to a traditional hospital setting.

Board-certified emergency physicians, registered nurses and other patient care providers staff the center. The center also is offering the 30-Minutes-or-Less ER Service Pledge that means the team works diligently to have each patient seen by a medical professional (physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant) within 30 minutes of their arrival to the center. Patients can learn more about the pledge at NorthwestMedicalCenter.com.

For patients seeking treatment for non-life threatening conditions, the Northwest Emergency Center offers a convenient new option: waiting at home instead of in the ER waiting room. Beginning December 24, Northwest Emergency Center patients can check in for estimated treatment times by visiting HealthierTucson.com and clicking on “Emergency Care: Check in Here.” The easy process involves choosing a projected treatment time at the Northwest Emergency Center based on the current wait time, and completing a brief online form.
