At the annual awards dinner of the Arizona Women’s Golf Association (AWGA), Julie Katz was named as the AWGA Representative of the Year for 2018.  In recognizing Julie for her accomplishments in assisting the Del Lago Women’s Golf Association and the AWGA in furthering the women’s golf throughout southern Arizona, the AWGA noted that she is a low-key and soft-spoken person that possesses a true passion for the game of golf.

“This is a celebration of Julie’s grit, determination, and advocacy for women’s golf, which has allowed a successful women’s golf league to take root and flourish at Del Lago,” said Pam Smith, President of the Del Lago Women’s Golf Association.  Deb Kohler, Vice President of the DLWGA, stated, “Julie is a trooper for being our president for the first three years of the club as well as our representative to the AWGA even during the time when she was undergoing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy for breast cancer. She’s in remission and competes on a weekly basis with all of us.”

Throughout her tenure with the DLWGA and AWGA, Julie has brought in experts who helped educate players on the rules and etiquette of the game, as well as opportunities for members to play at different locations and tournaments. This has enabled most of the members to elevate their skills and enjoyment of the sport. Each year, the AWGA sends surveys to the presidents of the member clubs asking for nominations as Representative of the Year.  In answering a series of questions, the presidents note their representative’s knowledge and engagement levels and each area is scored with the award going to the nominee with the highest score.

Julie lives with her husband Stuart in Vail and have been married for over 45 years.  They have two sons and one daughter as well as two granddaughters.
