So, is it hot enough for you? We all know the answer to that one, and this summer is especially brutal for people who must work outdoors—people like ReSources Vail Food Bank volunteers who currently are serving drive-up clients in the food bank parking lot because of Covid 19 protocols. To provide them with needed relief from the summer’s blazing sun and monsoon rain, Greater Vail Community Resources is asking for the public’s help in raising funds for a large permanent awning that can shade the entrance of Resources Vail Food Bank.
Our goal for this fundraising effort is $20,000, which is the approximate cost for a permanent structure including the cost of installation. Such an awning solves the immediate issues for volunteers but also will be extremely useful throughout the year and after the Covid 19 protocols have ended. Once clients can enter the food bank again, their numbers will be limited due to the small spaces and possible distancing requirements; they will be asked to wait their turn outside subject to the elements. A permanent shade structure will offer protection for them and for volunteers making deliveries to the food bank. Our timeframe for this quick fundraising campaign is the month of September. If you can help with any amount, visit the ReSources web site, and click on the “Donate” button and then choose the “Food Bank Awning” option: www.resourcesvail.org
Donations by check can be sent to: ReSources, P.O. Box 367, Vail, AZ 85641. Be sure to note that your donation is for the food bank awning.
Meanwhile, the Vail Depot Thrift Store is open by appointment only to ensure a safe environment for shoppers. You may make an appointment through the web site, and you can buy treasures online via Facebook. The support of the Vail community for our food bank is an awesome thing to behold. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone!
