Just as the sugar filled holidays have come to a close and your New Year’s resolution for healthy eating seems to actually be do-able this year, the Girl Scouts of America announced the start of their annual tradition – COOKIE SALES!
Girl scout cookie sales will begin on January 17. And this year, there are a few new surprises to add to the mix and shake up a much loved tradition.
Three New Flavors
That’s right! In addition to Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs (because you can’t avoid snagging a few boxes of each of those traditionally delicious flavors) the Girl Scouts will sell three new flavors!
- Toffee-tastic: This is being described by the Girls Scouts as a buttery cookie with bits of toffee. It’s also gluten-free!
- Trios: Trios take one of the best flavor combinations of all time – chocolate and peanut butter – and wrap it in with whole grain oats. This is also a gluten-free cookie!
- Rah-Rah Raisin: This one might not be gluten free, but it sounds delicious. It’s an oatmeal raisin cookie with Greek yogurt-flavored chunks and whole grain oats.
Each flavor will sell for $4 per box, except for the Toffee-Tastic. Toffee-Tastic will sell for $5 per box.
New Technology
In addition to the new flavors, the Girl Scouts are using new technology to drive cookie sales.
The online cookie finder is still available. Just visit the Girl Scouts of America website and type in your zip code for the dates and times of the closest sales.
This year the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona is participating in the use of new technology. Now, Girl Scouts can use an app called the Digital Cookie to increase their sales.
Don’t worry. The girls will still be the ones initiating the sale.
The app will work in two ways:
- The girls can set up their own online store by inviting customers to their personal cookie websites. This will be sent via email as a link.
- The girls will use the app to take in-person orders.
No matter how you purchase your cookies, you can feel good that your money is going toward a good cause. ALL of the revenue received from the Girl Scout Cookie Program goes to the local council.
Are you ready to give back to the youth in our area and munch on some delicious cookies?
