Thursday May 7th, was another hot day in May, but Pam Kelty, Treasurer of the Friends of the Southeast Library, wasn’t concerned about the weather. She was at long last on the way to the Vail Branch of Hughes Federal Credit Union to open up an account for the Friends.

“We are pleased and thrilled to have been approved to participate in the Hughes FCU program, which will give our nonprofit Friends some additional support through their membership program,” said Pam. “This will allow us to provide more programming funds for our community library, which will benefit the entire Pima County southeast community.”

“In the spring of 1999, Hughes FCU initiated a joint venture with the Friends of the Pima County Library. Through this affiliation, Hughes was able to offer credit Union membership to more people in the community and supports the Friends groups in fundraising for local libraries, said Hughes Marketing Manager Daniela Gomez.

“Over the last twenty years, Hughes has worked with friends’ groups from Oro Valley, Green Valley, and Kirk-Bear Canyon Libraries. As a result of our collective efforts, the community’s libraries have invested funds into new infrastructure, scholarship programs, reading programs and more,” Gomez continued. “We are excited for the opportunity to connect with the Friends of the Southeast Library and the communities it serves.”

Collaborating with Gomez is Irlanda Cuevas-Leyva, the Business Development Representative at Hughes FCU. She serves as a key resource for the department by providing financial literacy to the community, while also promoting Hughes’ products and services. She conducts financial seminars for business and community partners to assist members in their mission to make a positive difference in their financial lives.

In her role, she provides support through community outreach to non-profits like the Friends of the Southeast Library and schools. She also partners with neighboring businesses to provide Credit Union membership as an employee benefit and support local businesses with free advertising in our Local Business Partner Program.

The Southeast Library is currently under construction at 10931 E. Mary Ann Cleveland Way.
