Maya Schonbrun, age 14, is one of four Americans selected to compete in the Junior Division of the 5th Beijing International Ballet and Choreography competition (IBCC). She began dancing at Studio One Arizona Dance Company, in Vail, at age three until age of twelve. She presently trains at Master Ballet Academy in Scottsdale. She attended Vail schools Ocotillo Ridge Elementary and Old Vail Middle School, and now attends ASU Digital Prep due to the demands of full-time ballet training. The competition will be held from July 13th to 21st.

The IBCC is a state-level international competition initiated with the approval of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China. The competition has been successfully held for four years in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. This year, themed in “Tribute to Chinese Ballet,” the competition will continue to spot excellent ballet dancers and choreographers. It will make efforts in promoting international dance art exchanges by setting up a platform for young dancing artists to broaden their horizons and drive the international development of dance artistry.
