Desert Skies United Methodist Church will be holding their 2019 Flea Market at 3255 North Houghton Road this November 7th, 8th, and 9th., (at the NW corner of Houghton and Ft. Lowell).

In 2018, the Desert Skies United Methodist Church Flea Market grossed more than $125,000 and benefited more than 30 local charities, plus many needy families. Organizers of this year’s sale hope to do even better. Donations of goods began almost immediately afterward the last year’s sale closed.

A volunteer crew of 10 to 20 church members and friends accept donations throughout the year, and a pick-up service is also offered. Every Monday morning the volunteers help pick up, sort, price, repair, store and sell items that have been donated. The public is invited to shop on Mondays from 8 AM until around 11 AM. Over the years several regular shoppers have become volunteers, and even church members.

The sale now takes up most of the 14-acre property, both indoors and out. The goods are grouped into 20 departments, ranging from hardware and tools to toys and furniture. Church classrooms and the fellowship hall are used to display goods, plus about 40 big tables in the parking lots, to include building materials and yard and garden items, plus overflow from the indoor areas also outside. Members of the public are invited to bring their cars, trucks, boats and motorcycles to sell at the commission lot – a fee is charged only if the vehicle sells.

Credit cards not accepted. Please bring cash or check on a local bank. The hours this year are:

Thursday, November 7th, 7 AM until 5 PM.

Friday, November 8th, 7 AM until 5 PM.

Saturday, November 9th, 7 AM until noon.

After taking 8 days of setup time with about 150 volunteers, the cleanup crew tries to make it all disappear on Saturday afternoon in time for church services the following Sunday morning. Like any good yard sale, there’s lots of stuff left over at the end, and since the church starts fresh every year, many charitable organizations are invited to come and take anything they can use. The remainder is placed in a small fleet of the largest roll-off dumpsters available. Leftover metallic items are collected and later hauled to a metals recycling center.
