Hello Friends,
Thank you to everyone who participated in the April Arbor Day ceremony. Together we planted 50 new trees in Purple Heart Park. I am eager to watch these trees mature to create a much-needed tree canopy along our walking paths within the park.
You may have noticed a lot of construction within the park. This is all due to the voter approved Prop 407. In November 2018, the City of Tucson voters approved a $225 million bond package to improve City parks amenities and connections over ten years, from 2019-2028. Purple Heart Park is receiving over 2 million dollars in investment. The new LED lights on the multi-purpose and softball field has been completed. The new bathrooms and splash pad are nearing completion. Phase 3 (2026-2028) will bring a new basketball court, parking lot, ramada, and will renovate the existing walking paths, parking lots, skate park and pool. For more information on all the Prop 407 projects, including the new Robert Price Park on Wilmot, just south of Valencia, visit www.tucsondelivers.tucsonaz.gov
To celebrate the grand opening of the new splash pad, we invite the community to the Purple Heart Park Splash Bash on Friday, May 27, from 1:30 – 3:30pm. It will be a fun way to celebrate the last day of school’s half-day while enjoying free pizza, eegee drinks, an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, games, DJ Michael Lopez, of Master Mixx Pro, spinning the music, and, of course, cool off in the new splash pad or take a dip in the pool.
I invite you to celebrate the completion of the Houghton Road Improvement Project from Valencia to Mary Ann Cleveland Way on Friday, May 6. The ribbon cutting will begin at 12:00pm, followed by lunch inside Serial Grillers, which is generously hosted by Borderlands Construction. Please park in the fenced lot south of Serial Grillers, 7585 S. Houghton Road.
I wish you a wonderful Mother’s Day and hope to see you at the Purple Heart Park Splash Bash. To stay up to date on all things in the City of Tucson Ward 4 visit www.tucsonaz.gov/ward4 or www.facebook.com/CouncilwomanLee
