Thank you to everyone who participated in the March Ward 4 Town Hall featuring updates from our City of Tucson Public Safety Departments. If you were not able to attend the town hall you may watch the recording at any time on our Event Recap page at tucsonaz.gov/ward4
In 2017, Tucson voters passed Proposition 101, which increased the sales tax by ½ percent over 5 years to fund specific projects for roads and public safety. $150 million would be used for vehicles, equipment, and facilities for the Tucson Fire and Police departments. Nearly $55 million is scheduled for public safety vehicles, including police patrol cars, fire trucks, ambulances, police motorcycles, and other specialized and non-specialized public safety vehicles. A new southside police substation, police academy training track, a new southeast police annex, five fire station rebuilds and eleven fire station remodels are included investments.
I am excited to announce the southeast police annex is currently in design and projected to break ground late summer/early fall. The police annex will be located on Kolb Road, south of Valencia. The state of the art, LEED building will feature needed briefing rooms and technology spaces for our officers to do 21st Century Policing. The large community room will allow organizations to hold meetings with and without the Tucson Police Department. The building is being designed to convert to a fire station as our area grows and the need arises for a new fully equipped southeast police substation. To view the status of the southeast police annex and all the Prop 101 and Prop 407 projects visit tucsondelivers.tucsonaz.gov
We hope you can join us on Arbor Day, April 29, 8am, where we invite the community to help us plant 50 trees in Purple Heart Park. This is my second year hosting an Arbor Day tree planting celebration and am proud to make it happen again with the help of Tucson Clean and Beautiful, Tucson Parks and Recreation and savings from my Ward 4 budget to install new irrigation within the park.
We wish you a wonderful April and hope to see you on Arbor Day.
