Dear Editor,
I am a fiscal conservative and believe in balanced budgets. I also wholeheartedly support the Vail School District override. There was a time when communities directly supported the local school system. This became a problem when poorer communities did not receive the same funding as richer ones. However, when the state government took over, the funding model did not allow for communities to have a voice in their local school. The override process is a good compromise. It allows for basic funding for all schools, but also empowers communities to punish or reward the school district based upon their performance. The Vail School District is our pride and joy and is probably the most fiscally prudent district in the state. We should absolutely reinforce their efforts by supporting the override.
Thank you,
David Hook
