You have to admit 2015 was like no other year we have seen, be it in our local community or on the world stage. Looking back, both Cienega Rotary and Rotary International had a banner year helping our friends and neighbors. Globally, Rotary International has nearly two dozen programs focusing on major issues impacting the lives of people around the globe.

One program, “End Polio” which started in 1979, has reduced polio cases 99% worldwide by immunizing more than 2 billion children in 122 countries! Our very own Rich Leonard completed the 109 miles of El Tour de Tucson that rose over $1,000 to support this program. Locally, Cienega Rotary continued supporting our children and schools by providing over one thousand meals to help students over the weekends. Additionally, for the tenth year, every 3rd grader in the District received a free dictionary. Another great success this past year was the partnering of Cienega Rotary with Vail Academy and High School in support of the “Samaritan’s Purse” project. With the help of VAHS students, the goal of 200 boxes was not only reached, but surpassed and nearly 300 boxes were shipped to help children in developing countries. This past year was also important for the Cienega Rotary Foundation which awarded $10,000 in scholarships to deserving students. So yes, 2015 was a good year for Cienega Rotary and our community.

Of course, all of these things don’t just happen. We would like to thank Safeway and Target for their generous support as well as all of the businesses and individuals throughout the greater Tucson area who donated their time and resources. Looking forward to 2016, the following is a list of ongoing projects and fundraisers planned for the New Year. We will be asking for your help and support in making our community a better place for all.
