Mark Flint (left), the Arizona Trail Regional Steward for passages 7 – 9-B and Dennis Fischer (right) with the Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce and Steward of trail segment 8-C are shown with the new trail sign at the Pistol Hill trailhead.
Dennis recently rebuilt the long time eye sore kiosk and with the help of Peter Minot with Southwest Solutions, had a sign made to highlight the Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce’s (GVACC) sponsorship of segment 8-C between Pistol Hill Road and Hope Camp. The GVACC has been an active sponsor of the Arizona Trail since 2011 and Dennis has headed up trail maintenance work for the past 5 years. The 4.4 mile segment sponsored and maintained by the Chamber is a popular destination for hikers, bikers and equestrians of all ages, skill levels and from a variety of locations around the world. It is a fairly non-technical trail while offering great views of the lush desert and Rincon Creek. Riders also use this section to make connections with Colossal Cave to the south and the Hope Camp trail and Saguaro National Park to the north.
Vail is proud to be a gateway community for the Arizona Trail and the GVACC is committed to continued support of this great asset. With the coming of cooler weather, dust off the hiking and biking gear and enjoy the Trail.
