With many Americans complaining about meat department prices, I’m going to drop a few helpful hints to ease the pain in the meat aisle:

  1. Price compare among your local stores, as each week different stores have different commodities on sale. Even if you have to drive a few extra miles, it’s worth it in the end.
  2. Buy bulk. It may cost a few more dollars at the time to buy multiple sale items, but that’s why you have a freezer. Buying bulk will spread out your meals over a period of time, and may mean fewer trips to a store for meals.
  3. Shop the reduced and markdown sections early in the morning, as that’s the best time to grab products that are reduced in price. These items have nothing wrong with them: they may be close to expiration date, off quality, or an overstock, and are an easy way to save a buck.
  4. Talk to the meat department guys about sale items, They may have suggestions for meals that can save a few dollars and make your money go further.
