Vail, Rita Ranch, and Corona Construction Updates by Tom Howard
Houghton Road Speed Display Signs
On Monday, June 26 and continuing through Thursday, July 6, between the hours of 6 AM. to 3:30 PM, Pima County Department of Transportation will be installing four (4) radar speed display signs on Houghton Road at the flowing locations:
South of the intersection of Brekke Road and Houghton Road (west side).
South of the intersection of Pantano High School entrance and Houghton Road.
South of the intersection of Blackjack Ranch Road and Houghton Road.
South of the intersection of Andrade Road and Houghton Road.
The intent of the signs is to get drivers to drive the speed limit and help prevent roadway departure and other accidents. Radar speed signs display the speed of approaching vehicles and help remind drivers of their speed and the posted speed limit. Minor delays may occur. Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices. In the event of mechanical failure or inclement weather, the construction schedule will be subject to change.
Houghton Rd/Over Union Pacific Railroad
Currently, bridge piers are being drilled and the bridge approaches are being formed. Utilities are being relocated that are in the way of the new roadway. The contractor has the speed reduced to 35 MPH for the safety of the workers and equipment moving across the roadway. This project is moving along nicely and we should see bridge girders soon.

The final paving of this project has begun. Crews started on 6/19/17 and will continue thru the end of June. Flagman will be within the project to allow for the paving activities. Some repairs were done to the roadway surface prior to the final lift of asphalt. We should see temporary striping going down by the end of the month. Once the asphalt is deemed cured the final thermoplastic striping will go down. This job is nearing completion.
