When you talk to the parents of a senior in high school, there’s a palpable sense of panic. They’re excited to watch their child fly the coup but they’re worried about what the future might hold. They’re eager to see all the things their child will participate in, but they’re concerned about the party scene.
Stacked on top of all this worry is the cost of education –how will they pay for it all?
Getting a degree is expensive. Students are graduating with record high student loan debt. It’s enough to burden even the most fiscally responsible families. To help alleviate some of this pain, one local organization is raising money to award five scholarships for Vail High School students.
The Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Opportunity
The Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce is once again hosting a Golf Tournament to raise money to give our students a financial boost from the community. Last year, less than 30 students applied for the scholarships. The competition is low and the benefits are tremendous.
If you’re a parent or student, you won’t want to miss this opportunity!
Here’s how it works.
There will be five scholarships awarded.
- Four (4) one-time general scholarships will be awarded for $1,000 each.
- One (1) Pete Inks Memorial scholarship will be awarded at $2,000.
There are four parts to the application.
- Students will fill out an application form.
- Students must also submit a one-page essay describing their pursuit of a future career path and how they plan to reach their goals.
- Students will need a letter of recommendation from a teacher or a mentor connected to the student’s activities.
- Students might need to attend an interview with the Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Committee.
Applications must be submitted by February 1, 2015.
