Each year the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors an American History Essay Contest.  The purpose of the essay contest is to encourage youth to learn about American History. The topic this year is “Delegate to the Second Continental Congress.” Austin Roger Hallum, a seventh grader at Rincon Vista Middle School, submitted his essay to the Old Pueblo Chapter ASDAR in Tucson.  Austin’s essay detailed his thoughts and feelings as a delegate from the Connecticut Colony. Old Pueblo Chapter chose his expressive essay as their winner in the 7th grade division.  He received a $25 gift card at a special luncheon. His essay was forwarded to the AZ State NSDAR Essay contest where he won again. He was recognized at the AZ State NSDAR Conference on May 20th and received an additional monetary gift.

More information about the DAR American History Essay Contest for 5th -8th grades and High School students can be found at https://dar.org  A new topic will be released by September.
