Cuphead is a run and gun indie video game that was released in 2017. Cuphead was inspired by Fleischer Studios and Walt Disney. It is about Cuphead and Mugman, who gambled at the Devil’s casino and lost their souls to the devil. To get them back, the cups have to get the “soul contracts” from runaway debtors. Studio MDHR, the developers of Cuphead, was driven by a vision and they were extremely passionate about Cuphead. The game was designed with an old-time aesthetic similar to cartoons from the 1930s. The developers used hand-drawn animations, watercolor backgrounds, and original music recordings to create Cuphead. In fact, according to Games Radar, there are 50,000 hand-drawn frames in the first chapter alone.
One thing I enjoy a lot about Cuphead is how hard the boss fights are. It gives me a challenge and helps me work on my ability to act quickly in dire situations. What I also like about Cuphead is the graphics of the game. This is one of the only games that have successfully tried to recreate what cartoons were like in the 1930s. I am always amazed at how far we’ve come in video game graphics and the fact that we are at a level where we can recreate old style cartoons is surreal. However, I wish Cuphead had more variety. Maybe what the developers could add are puzzles that are scattered around the game. I really enjoy difficult puzzles, as they allow me to think outside the box. Cuphead also recently released a new chapter to the game, called the Delicious Last Course. In my opinion, I think the developers of Cuphead outdid themselves, as the bosses are harder than the first chapter. I still haven’t gotten past the first boss yet! From my experience, Cuphead is one of the most awesome, but difficult, games I’ve ever played. It taught me a lot about why resilience is extremely important.
Cuphead is one of the most unique games I’ve ever seen, and I encourage people who have a love for video games to play it. It is rated E for everyone 10+ years old and has fantasy violence, mild language, and use of alcohol and tobacco. Cuphead is available on platforms like Xbox, PC, or Nintendo.
