Claim Tax Credit to Support Vail Schools by Stacy Winstryg
Claiming your tax credit with the Vail schools is one way we as taxpayers can have a say in how our tax dollars are spent, to keep our tax dollars local. Here is how it works.
A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction to your Arizona income tax liability. Arizona allows you to send your school(s) a tax credit now, and then you can subtract the total amount from your state income tax if you are eligible. Every dollar you claim gets added to the refund column! They are a dollar for dollar credit, not a deduction. Those tax dollars can then be used to support extracurricular activities in our Vail schools like sports, band, choir, after school clubs, field trips, tutoring, etc. You choose your activity. And if you don’t have one, don’t worry. You can simply designate your dollars to the school of your choice and it will go towards the program with the greatest need.
This credit is available to anyone in Arizona, not just Vail. So grandparents, family, and friends can donate to any school. Anyone who pays state income tax can contribute their tax credit to Vail Schools – $200 for single and $400 for married. Even cooler, many employers will match the credit including Raytheon, AT&T, all Gannett subsidiaries, Bank of America, Costco, Discover, Home Depot, Quest, and many more. Ask your human resources department about contribution matching.
You can claim your tax credit online for your 2016 taxes through https://vailtaxcredits.org. Choose any school, any activity, or greatest need, submit and receive a receipt for your tax credit instantly. It is so simple! You have until April 15th to make a tax contribution for your 2016 taxes.
We all love and support our Vail schools, this is just one more way in which we can continue that support. Let’s keep our tax dollars right here in Vail, in our schools, supporting our kids and their passions. Let’s keep Vail schools strong! Claim your tax credit today!
