On Wednesday the 16th of March, at the McCulloch-Wagner American Legion Post 109, at 15921 South Houghton Road, Corona, Boy Scout Troop 770 assembled to23 Flag 3 formally retire an American flag, with American Legion members and a representative of the U. S. Air Force in attendance. When the Stars and Stripes is damaged, US code requires that the flag should be “destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” To date, the scouts in Troop 770 have retired over 300 flags this year. They have retired around 75 this month.23 Flag 2

Scoutmaster Walter Mittendort noted that if the flag is just in need of cleaning, it is acceptable to clean the flag. However, if it is damaged, the flag should be destroyed. American Legion Post 109 does collect flags that have been damaged and will retire them in an appropriate ceremony. For more inform
